Facilitating Student Talk

Facilitating Student Talk

Front: Students must learn to listen and learn from each other through gentle reminders from you. If the teacher paraphrases, the class will lose accountability for listening and thinking on their own.

Back: When you ask a student to answer a question in front of other students, do not repeat or rephrase their response. If it needs to be clarified or repeated have another student rephrase a prior student's answer. Teach students a routine of "addon," "build on," or "yes, and" to clarify and deepen the prior student's response.
