Opening a Debrief Session
Opening a Debrief Session
Front: Debriefing, or reflection, is critical to the coaching cycle and should begin with teacher reflection. Inviting teachers to unpack first prioritizes their learning and makes sure these thoughts are not swayed by the coach's feedback.
Back: Initiate a debrief session with self-reflective questioning. Give teachers a lot of time to think about and talk out what happened during the lesson without jumping to solutions. Ask questions like: How do you feel the lesson went? What do you think went well? What happened during each part? How are you feeling about the students' understanding?
