Instead of: "You talked too much during the lesson."

Try: "I noticed during the 20-minute instruction time, there were about 15 minutes of teacher talk. What are your thoughts on the balance of voices in the room?"

Instead of: "The girls weren't as engaged."

Try: "I was watching the table of four girls near the window. Two of them finished early and started chatting. What do you think was happening there?"

Instead of: "You should use think-pair-share."

Try: "I noticed several students seemed to want more processing time. What strategies have you used to give students think time?"
