Ongoing Sessions: Lesson Planning (30-45 minutes)
Ongoing Sessions: Lesson Planning (30-45 minutes)
For regular co-planning sessions, follow this structure:
1. Review Previous Lesson (5 min)
- What worked? What didn't?
- Any student impact observations?
- Connect to previously set goals
2. Curriculum Work (20-30 min)
Choose activities based on where the teacher is:
For New Teachers (Use):
- Walk through a pre-written curriculum together
- Ensure teacher understands the content
- Have teacher "Build It First" - complete the student task
For Developing Teachers (Modify):
- Review curriculum together
- Discuss modifications for this specific class
- Customize for student identities and needs
For Experienced Teachers (Create):
- Co-design original lessons
- Integrate CS into existing content areas
- Create differentiation options
3. Set Lesson Objectives (5 min)
- Use the ABCD model:
- Audience: Who are the learners?
- Behavior: What will they do?
- Condition: What tools/resources?
- Degree: What level of mastery?
4. Plan for Assessment (5 min)
- How will we know students learned?
- What formative checks will be built in?
5. Decide Ahead: Co-Teaching Roles (5 min)
- Will you model, co-teach, or observe?
- When/how should you interject?
- What will your physical positioning be?
- What "Look Fors" will you focus on?
