Coaching Report (for administrators)

Coaching Report (for administrators)

If requested, create a summary that:

  • States activities the teacher participated in
  • Lists general topics discussed
  • Contains no evaluation whatsoever
  • Is reviewed by teacher before sharing

SPECIAL SITUATIONS

First Lesson of a Coaching Cycle

Emphasize:

  • Building trust over critiquing
  • Celebrating any attempt at CS
  • Understanding context before changing anything
  • Setting realistic expectations

When a Lesson Goes Poorly

In the moment:

  • Stick to your role
  • Don't rescue
  • Take notes for later

In debrief:

  • Let teacher process feelings first
  • Normalize: "That happens to everyone"
  • Focus on one thing to change
  • Plan to iterate

Reluctant or Resistant Teachers

Approach with:

  • Extra empathy for their situation
  • Curiosity about their resistance (often it's fear)
  • Small wins to build confidence
  • Honoring their expertise in other areas
  • Patience—trust takes time

Time Constraints

When time is short:

  • Prioritize relationship over content
  • Quick check-in > no check-in
  • 10-minute focused debrief > skipped debrief
  • Use email for sharing resources, not for feedback
